• How can I help my child succeed at school?

Helping your child do well in school may be easier than you think. Research has shown that it is what you do with your child at home that makes the biggest difference. Parental involvement at home has a greater impact on student achievement than parental involvement in school-based activities.

Here are six things you can do that will have the biggest impact on your child’s success at school:

1. Let your child know that you think it is important that he or she does well in school.
2. Talk to your kids about school.
3. Read to your children when they are young (and even when they’re older).
4. Read your child’s report card.
5. Go to parent–teacher interviews.
6. Go to school concerts and sports events.

These six steps have been shown to lead to improvements in student attendance, student engagement and success at school, and more positive relationships between parents and teachers.
